At Culture Connect, we create multicultural teaching resources that are both meaningful and academically strong.

Every lesson is rooted in real global cultures and designed with care—so students can build empathy, curiosity, and a broader worldview.

Our materials are aligned to grade-level standards, thoughtfully crafted by an experienced educator, and never rely on generalizations or shortcuts.

You don’t have to choose between quality and cultural depthyou can have both.

Founder & Educator with a Global Heart

Hi, I’m Chelsea—educator, curriculum creator, and founder of Culture Connect.

I’ve spent over 15 years teaching diverse learners across the world—from inner-city classrooms to Native American reservations, from virtual learning to high school ELL students, an all-girls school in Palestine, and Peace Corps service in Lesotho, Africa. The list goes on.

I hold a Master’s of Education in Learning and Technology, a Bachelor’s in K–8 Education with a concentration in Spanish, TEFL certified, and I’m a nationally certified virtual educator. I'm committed to continual growth, regularly attending professional development to stay current with the latest best practices. I also stay closely connected to the classroom by teaching several private K–8 tutoring sessions each week across a range of subjects.

What drives me most is connection—between people, cultures, and ideas. Whether I’m tutoring students one-on-one or designing a new classroom resource, I aim to make learning feel meaningful, inclusive, and culturally responsive. I’ve worked with English Language Learners of all ages and have a deep love for creating materials that are both culturally rich and academically sound.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me outdoors with my husband and toddler—camping, hiking, or just soaking up the Montana sky. We share our home with three goofy cats, who often make appearances during my virtual tutoring sessions. Whether I’m exploring my own backyard or learning from another culture, I’m always drawn to the ways we’re connected.

Montana

This is home. I first came to Montana for college, and after a decade of adventure, I found myself drawn back—this time to build a life and start a family. The mountains, open skies, and slower pace remind me daily of what matters most. There’s something about this place that grounds me, inspires me, and reminds me to stay curious and connected.

Oregon

I was born in Eugene, and Oregon will always hold a special place in my heart. I still visit every few years to see family—and even spent my honeymoon exploring the state. We climbed at Smith Rock State Park, savored clam chowder in Florence, and listened to sea lions calling in Newport. So many beautiful memories are woven into this place I first called home.

Washington

I grew up west of Seattle on the Kitsap Peninsula, where salty air and evergreen trees feel like home. My husband’s family (and some of mine) still live there, so we return twice a year—always with beach walks on the agenda. My son spent his first birthday in La Push, which felt full-circle in the best way. We also lived in a small town in central Washington for a couple of years before settling back in Montana. So many seasons of my life are tied to this place.

Hawaii

I spent over a month on the Big Island this year and was deeply honored to learn from a local woman who was born there over 80 years ago. Listening to her stories—including living through the 1946 tsunami—and spending time in her childhood home was a gift I’ll never forget. Her presence, wisdom, and deep connection to the land reminded me that Hawaiʻi is far more than a destination; it’s a living, breathing culture that deserves respect, care, and gratitude.

Alaska

Alaska’s raw beauty took my breath away—the vast landscapes, towering peaks, and incredible wildlife left a lasting impression. There’s a deep sense of respect for the land and its rhythms that you can feel in your bones. I’ve always imagined what it might be like to teach in a rural village there—and maybe one day I will. I’d love to return and spend more time in this wild, powerful place.

Canada

I’ve explored parts of British Columbia over a few different trips—and there’s still so much more I want to see. One standout memory is traveling to Vancouver as a teenager for a Kings of Leon concert in the heart of the city. It was big, bustling, and electric. From the lively streets of Vancouver to the more peaceful corners of BC, Canada has a dynamic mix I’m excited to keep discovering.

Mexico

My dad’s birthplace—and a place I’ve returned to again and again over the past 20 years. From the vibrant streets of Mexico City to ancient pyramids and peaceful coastlines, Mexico holds so much history, beauty, and heart. It’s where culture and flavor come alive. Every visit feels like coming home in a different way.

Nicaragua

My first time going abroad alone—and the experience that kickstarted it all. I spent a summer teaching at a camp for at-risk children, living with a local family who made me feel right at home. It opened my heart, boosted my confidence, and sparked a lifelong love for exploring the world. Nicaragua showed me how powerful connection can be—no matter the language or background.

Belize

A beautiful blend of culture, nature, and family time. I explored Belize with loved ones—snorkeling in crystal-clear waters by day, and soaking in the richness of Belizean culture by night. It was one of those trips that leaves you lighter, brighter, and more connected to the world (and each other).

Peru

Peru took my breath away—literally and figuratively. I traveled to explore Cusco and the ancient wonder of Machu Picchu, and the experience was nothing short of magical. Walking through such a sacred place, surrounded by mountains and history, reminded me how small we are—and how connected we can feel to something much bigger.

Brazil

While working as a nanny, I became close friends with a Brazilian au pair—and that friendship quickly grew into something special. After she returned home to São Paulo, I went to visit her for a few weeks. We explored both São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro together, and seeing it all through her eyes made the experience unforgettable. Incredible coffee, fresh juice, pastries, beaches... Brazil was vibrant, warm, and full of heart.

Lesotho

I spent 2.5 years living in a remote mountain village as a Peace Corps volunteer—no electricity, no running water, and 7,500 feet above sea level. Winters brought snow, and every season brought lessons. Lesotho changed me in ways I’m still unpacking. It was raw, beautiful, challenging, and full of heart. This little country carved a permanent place in my story, and I’ll carry it with me always.

South Africa

I’ve had the chance to visit South Africa multiple times—from the energy of Johannesburg to the beauty of Cape Town and the wild magic of Kruger National Park. It’s a country of deep contrasts and incredible diversity—culturally, geographically, and historically. Every visit left me more curious, more humbled, and more in awe.

Namibia

Namibia was an unforgettable road trip—one of the most beautiful and otherworldly places I’ve ever seen. We camped, stayed in hostels, and soaked in every mile of it. From the towering red dunes to the wild wonders of Etosha National Park and the haunting beauty of the Skeleton Coast, it felt like driving through a dream. Pure magic.

Mozambique

I spent about a month in Vilanculo, soaking in the easy rhythm of beach life and forming a meaningful friendship with a local family who welcomed me like one of their own. The food was unforgettable—fresh coconuts, cashews, seafood straight from the ocean—and the snorkeling? Out of this world. Mozambique was all about connection, flavor, and slowing down to really feel the moment.

Egypt

Visiting Egypt was like stepping into a history book—Cairo, the pyramids, the Nile... it was all as awe-inspiring as I’d imagined. The ancient sites, the vibrant culture, the sense of scale—it was unforgettable. I went in the summer, and yes, it was very hot, but totally worth it. Egypt left me in awe.

Morocco

Through the English Language Program, I supported first-year Moroccan teachers working in very rural schools across the country. I led a weekly virtual support group that became a space not just for sharing strategies—like how to teach without electricity—but also for navigating the ups and downs of their first year in the classroom. The experience was rich, humbling, and deeply meaningful. I built lasting connections and gained firsthand insight into the beauty and complexity of education in Morocco.

Israel

I spent a summer teaching through a program called TALMA, living in Jerusalem and soaking in the city's rich layers of history, culture, and meaning. Exploring Jerusalem was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience—every corner held something sacred, surprising, or deeply human. I also spent time in Tel Aviv, where the coastal energy and creative spirit offered a beautiful contrast. The whole experience left me inspired, stretched, and incredibly grateful.

Palestine

While living in Jerusalem, I crossed into Palestine each day to teach at an all-girls school—and it remains one of the most meaningful parts of my journey. The students and teachers welcomed me with open arms, even though I didn’t speak Arabic. Their warmth, hospitality, and generosity left a deep impression. I still think about the fresh hummus and tea they shared with me daily—and I’m lucky to still be in touch with some of my students today.

India

I spent a month backpacking through India by train, soaking in everything from the energy of Mumbai to serene beaches, misty mountains, and ancient ruins. Gokarna, a lively religious pilgrimage site, was especially eye-opening—full of life, color, and spiritual devotion. The Hampi ruins and the temple town of Sringeri added to the depth of the journey. I learned so much about different cultures and ways of life. India was a vibrant, unforgettable experience that stretched me in the best ways.

Thailand

I traveled to Thailand to complete my 200-hour yoga teacher certification on the stunning island of Koh Phangan. Living there, surrounded by natural beauty and friends from around the world, was both grounding and expansive. After graduating from yoga school, I spent a couple of weeks backpacking around the country—soaking in Thailand’s rich culture, incredible food, and warm hospitality. It was a time of deep growth and joyful exploration.

China

I taught virtual English and Math classes to students in China and neighboring countries for several years—working with learners from ages 3 to 16. Some of my students became like family; a few even mailed me care packages from across the world. It was a privilege to be invited into Chinese homes through the screen—meeting parents, joining celebrations, and seeing daily life unfold. I learned so much about Chinese culture, and it always amazed me how technology allowed us to build real relationships across oceans.

Curriculum Assistant

Hi! I’m Sam, and I’m so glad to be here. I support the creative and behind-the-scenes work that goes into each Culture Connect resource—helping with writing, formatting, design, and organization.

I’ve been a virtual assistant for the past four years, with experience in content writing, educational support, and graphic design. I love learning new tools, solving problems, and bringing care and clarity to everything I do.

When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me reading a book, going for a run, sipping a matcha, or rewatching Interstellar. I’ve always been drawn to stories—whether I’m writing them, designing them, or just soaking them in.

Being part of this work—helping educators share meaningful, inclusive learning—is something I feel really lucky to do.

Meet the Real Proofreaders 🐾

Every great business has a secret weapon. Ours? A trio of four-legged "editors" who joined the team four years ago during what was only supposed to be a short-term foster stay.

At the time, I had already fostered dozens of kitten litters—this wasn’t new territory. But that season, the animal rescue I worked with was overwhelmed and short on adopters. So Benny, Athena, and Stellaluna stuck around… and never left.

They may all look completely different, but yep—they’re siblings from the same litter. These days, they spend their time supervising tea-fueled writing sessions, sunbathing like pros, and regularly strolling across my keyboard mid-project. So if you ever spot a stray typo, one of them is probably to blame (and completely unbothered about it).

They’ve been part of the journey from the start, adding a little chaos, a lot of charm, and the occasional accidental “qwerty” into the mix.
